There are dense galleries of crawling plants and giant trees competing for rations of scarce sun light under the lush jungle canopy.
After lunch we begin our trip to the mouth of the Orinoco River at the northern edge of the Orinoco Delta on the Atlantic Ocean. This is where the fresh glossy Orinoco waters merge with the sea. Here Christopher Columbus, on his third expedition to the new world, decided that he had discovered a new continent and not an island because of the tremendous amount of fresh water pouring out from the river.
Noticing the extensive vegetation and the giant mangrove trees lining the shores, he said "this must be the earthly paradise".
In the afternoon we will arrive at the Cotura Island to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets on Earth. On the border line of the Orinoco and the Atlantic, this Island is home to thousands of birds returning from a busy day feeding. The sounds of Parrots, Parakeets, Scarlet Ibis, Egrets, Spoon Bill and many more gathering to sleep fills the air with a spectacular symphony.
Drinks will be served on the boat then back we head to the Orinoco Atlantic Lodge where you can enjoy cocktails at our cozy bar overlooking the river.
Dinner is served at 20:00pm.
You will be sleeping in comfortable cabins with beds and private bathrooms. |

Following breakfast we shall visit the nearby active Mud Volcano before continuing on to Pedernales – an interesting small fishing town.
After lunch we will begin our journey back to the Orinoco Delta Lodge stopping occasionally to spot a Tucan, a Dolphin, a Snake or an Indian fishing, always on the lookout for what nature has to offer. |
